PLM: Design Adoption - Best Practices & Prerequisites
Once Design profiles are built out in PLM, we have the ability to "adopt" & "re-adopt" designs from PLM to Exenta.
This means that a user can "adopt" a design from PLM to Exenta, then update the design profile in PLM, and "re-adopt" that same design so that updates flow from the PLM Design Profile to the Exenta Design Profile.
Before "adopting" a design from PLM to Exenta, there are a few things to know.
1) A user should only UPDATE THE SPECIFIC DESIGN INFORMATION IN PLM WHICH IS CONFIGURED TO FLOW FROM PLM TO EXENTA
- Do not update this information in Exenta, as when a design is "re-adopted" the outdated information left in PLM will override the updated information in Exenta.
- This will result in OUTDATED INFORMATION IN EXENTA.
2) All materials that are used as "DESIGN MAIN MATERIALS" must have MATERIAL CONTENTs associated with them. (If they do not, the Design Adoption will FAIL.)
3) A design adoption will FAIL if:
- There are no Active Design Colors. (There must be at least one Active Material Color.)
- There is no Size Range or Allowed Sizes associated with it.
- The style exists in BOTH PLM and EXENTA and the size ranges do not match.
- The field "Fabrication" is left blank.
4) Both the DESIGN STATUS & the DESIGN COLOR STATUS in Exenta are driven by the PLM Field named "Design Status."
5) For a design's initial adoption, ensure that ONLY DESIGN COLORS intended to go to market are "active." If a design color is not being offered at market, make the design color inactive.
6) Once a DESIGN COLOR has been pushed to Exenta, DO NOT MAKE IT INACTIVE. Instead, change the "Design [Color] Status" to "Dropped (During SMS)."
DESIGN STATUS & DESIGN COLOR STATUS DETAILS:
-
The Design Status in Exenta is driven by the PLM field in the Design Overview.

The Design Color Status in Exenta is driven by the PLM field in the Design Color Section, BUT has flexibility to be managed in PLM at the INDIVIDUAL COLOR LINE LEVEL.

5) When a Design is "re-adopted" below fields WILL UPDATE IN EXENTA (as long as the field in PLM is not blank during a "re-adopt".)
On Design Overview:
- Design Name
-
Design Main Material
- Content & Code
- COO
- Wholesale Price
- Retail Price
- Merch Group Attributes
On Design Color Section:
- Design Color, Code (New colors will be created in Exenta via Design Adoptions)
-
Design Color Status
6) When a Design is "re-adopted" below fields WILL NOT UPDATE:
- Style Number
- Size Range Name
- Allowed Sizes
7) Once a DESIGN IS ADOPTED from PLM to Exenta, we should strive to NOT CHANGE THE STYLE NO. in PLM.
The STYLE No. is the connecting link between PLM & Exenta.
If a user adopts a Design from PLM to Exenta, and then changes the design no. in PLM and "re-adopts" the design (but with a new style no.,) the design profile in Exenta WILL NOT UPDATE.
Instead, a NEW DESIGN WILL BE CREATED IN EXENTA.
