PLM: Material Adoption - Best Practices & Prerequisites
Once material profiles are built out in PLM, we have the ability to "adopt" & "re-adopt" materials from PLM to Exenta.
This means that a user can "adopt" a material profile from PLM to Exenta, then update the material profile in PLM, and "re-adopt" that same material so that updates flow from the PLM Material Profile to the Exenta Material Profile.
Before "adopting" a material from PLM to Exenta, there are a few things to know.
1) A user should only UPDATE MATERIAL INFORMATION IN PLM (not Exenta.)
-
(As of 11/11/2024, the COST field in PLM is NOT configured to push data to any field in Exenta ERP and therefore material related COST information will need to be generated in Exenta.)
2) MATERIAL CONTENT & CODE will be created in Exenta via PLM>Exenta Material Adoption.
- (Upon a Material Adoption/Re-Adoption, if the associated Material Content does not have a code (in PLM,) the Material will be adopted (to Exenta) with style content blank.)
3) A material adoption will FAIL if:
- The PARTNER field is left blank on the Material Profile in PLM. (A Partner must be selected for the material.)
- The PARTNER (and it's code) selected in PLM does not correspond with a PARTNER & CODE in Exenta
- There are no Active Material Colors. (There must be at least one Active Material Color.)
4) When a material is "re-adopted" below fields WILL UPDATE IN EXENTA (as long as the field in PLM is not blank during a "re-adopt".)
On Material Overview:
- Material Name
- Partner
-
Partner Item Number
-
Content & Code (Will create new material content & code.)
-
A material adoption WILL NOT UPDATE an existing Material Content & Code in Exenta
-
If a PLM CONTENT DESC. has to be adjusted, and has already pushed to Exenta, this will need to be manually adjusted in BOTH PLM & EXENTA.
-
E.g.
- PLM CONTENT CODE: XYZ 98%COTTON 2%ELASTANE is created in PLM manually and then Exenta via a Material Adoption.
- After initial Material Adoption, user realizes they typed "COTTON" i/o "LINEN"
- User manually adjusts Content Desc. of Content Code XYZ in PLM to read "98%LINEN 2%ELASTANE".
- This adjustment will also need to be made manually in EXENTA for code XYZ.
- COO
- Cuttable Width
- Weight
- RM Group
- UOM
-
Cost (As of 11/11/2024, the COST field in PLM is NOT configured to push data to any field in Exenta ERP.)
On Material Color Section:
- Material Color, Code (New colors will be created in Exenta via Material Adoptions)
- Partner Color
5) When a material is "re-adopted" below fields WILL NOT UPDATE IN EXENTA:
On Material Overview:
- Material Type (If needed, this can be manually adjusted)
6) Once a MATERIAL IS ADOPTED from PLM to Exenta, DO NOT CHANGE THE MATERIAL NO. in PLM.
The Material No. is the connecting link between PLM & Exenta (similar to a Design's STYLE NO.)
If a user adopts a material from PLM to Exenta, and then changes the material no. in PLM and "re-adopts" the material (but with a new material no.,) the material profile in Exenta WILL NOT UPDATE.
Instead, a NEW MATERIAL WILL BE CREATED IN EXENTA.
